Abstract

Social forestry is forest management that takes rural people into account to improve rural welfare and minimize environmental degradation. Author studied eighteen villages on the Chota Nagpur Plateau in southeastern Bihar, India to weigh how theories of common property resource management were affected by social differentiation, wealth distribution, local institutions. The goal is to assess the likehood of success of social forestry initiatives before their implementation. - (SLD)
