Abstract

Funded by the Government of Egypt and the European Union, the five-year (1996-2001) St. Katherine Protectorate Development Project in the southern Sinai is to safeguard the region's natural environment and to encourage sustainable tourism. A major component of the project is the Bedouin Support Programme, designed to provide tangible benefits to the inhabitants in order to gain their support for and participation in the conservation initiatives.
