Abstract

Paper is based on the results of household surveys in six remote mountain villages, located in the transition zones between the Terai and the Siwalik Hills and between the Pokhara Basin, Middle Mountains and the High Himal. They are among the many food deficient villages in Nepal during most of the 1990s. Authors searched for specific coping strategies, which included inter-village trading, alcohol production and selling, wage employment, etc. Authors recommend policy to reduce the still evident malnutrition. - (SLD)
