The purpose of this thesis is to evaluate monitoring of methan flux from Arctic tundra using remote sensing and ground truth data from Zackenberg, Northeast Greenland. The thesis establishes an empirical correlation between the normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) based on spectroradiometric measurements of different vegetation types and the ratio between soil heat flux and net radiation. Extraction of net radiation and NDVI from SPOT HRV data enables spatial mapping of soil heat flux. An empirical correlation from Alaska between soil temperature and methan flux are used to map methan flux from soil heat flux as daily soil heat flux and soil temperature are correlated
