Alaskan airline markets : a case study in spatial decision making

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

SORENSON N. ;

Abstract

The nature of market decisions made by airlines operating within Alaska is examinated. Author focuses on which variables, internal and external to the firm, are associated with decisions to either add, delete, or retain markets within a system. Discrete-choice analysis involving the logit model was used to evaluate the market decisions of Alaskan airline firms during the 1988-1993 period. Major variables included changing levels of competitive rivalry, network configuration, and changes in fleet composition. - (SLD)
