Abstract

Observations on the distribution and the age of loess-like sediments in the more than 3000 m high ranges of Wutai Shan and Qinling Shan (Central China) were made during recent geomorphological investigations. In altitudes below 1800-2000 m a modern loess accumulation takes place, whereas the eolian loess accumulation in the higher altitudes is much reduced. In the modern alpine meadow belts, the loessic sediments underwent varying degrees of weathering and pedogenesis
