Abstract

The analysis shows that once the important role that consumption opportunities plays in location decisions is recognized, minor variants of existing models provide an understanding of motivations for two-ways movement. An analysis incorporating price and amenity differentials predicts complex sets of movements. As the system moves toward a stable population distribution, individuals move both in and out of growing locations. Forces assumed to induce utility equalization across locations do not operate as the simple static model would imply
