Abstract

This paper investigates the use of a simple method for rapidly assessing the most suitable medium of suspension and method of dispersion for a Malvern laser sizer and sandy soil typical of a semi-arid environment. Consideration is given to the intensity of dispersion using temporal variation and microscopic evidence. Problems in blending the results from 2 separate lenses are discussed and consideration is also given to subsampling bias and its contribution to the resultant grain-size distribution
