Spatial and short-term temporal variations in runoff, soil aggregation and other soil properties along a mediterranean climatological gradient

Abstract

This paper investigates how certain soil properties and processes are influenced by climatic conditions and how these condition the spatial and temporal distribution of soil properties. For this purpose, a fairly homogeneous Mediterranean climatological and altitudinal gradient in terms of lithology, soils and vegetation was selected in the province of Alicante. Some variables were taken as indicators (runoff, soil moisture, aggregate distribution and stability) of different processes (infiltration, soil water regimes, aggregation). These variables were measured at different temporal (monthly, seasonally) and spatial (site, slope, patch) scales
