Abstract

The rainfall distribution over the Indian Subcontinent during recent 2 severe floods (1987 and 1988) in Bangladesh was examined using daily station-based rainfall data, mainly from macro-scale view point. In both years, rainfall was abundant in northeastern and northwestern part of Bangladesh and adjacent Indian Territory. This rainfall pattern was also obvious during and/or prior to the severe flood events in Bangladesh. Extreme high water level of the Ganges in 1987 and that of the Brahmaputra in 1988 were caused under such rainfall distribution
