Abstract

Because of the interaction between winter and summer monsoons, there is an apparent NW-SE gradient in northern climate on the Chinese Loess Plateau. 2 distinctive proposals have been adopted in attempting to reconstruct the paleoclimate of the Chinese loess. First, the magnetic susceptibility has actively recorded the intensity of summer monsoon, i.e., the degree of pedogenesis has controlled the variation of the susceptibility. Second, the magnetic susceptibility has passively recorded the intensity of winter monsoon, i.e., the intensity of dustfall has controlled the variation in susceptibility.
