Abstract

Geomorphological studies in the humid-semihumid karst areas of Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Guadeloupe give evidence that cockpit karst formation and intense weathering took place simultaneously on these islands. Intense weathering was leading to quartz dissolution. These processes were active in the Miocene/Pliocene. Different morphodynamic processes occurred during the Quaternary when only doline karst was developed. Concerning the Caribbean island, this yields a Tertiary paleoclimate characterized by intense weathering
