Abstract

Using maps and regression analysis, the AA. sort out the varying turnout rates in elections across the 330 municipalities of Guatemala. An unexpected finding is that turnout covaries with the share of the population that is indigenous and is inversely related to the size of the municipality. Moreover, high rates of political violence do not dampen turnout. - (DWG)
