Abstract

To explore the susceptibility of southeastern United States to sealing under the impact of raindrops and compare it with less-weathered midwestern soils, 6 ultisols sampled from 3 physiographic regions in Georgia were packed into plexiglass cylinders and subjected to simulated rainfall. The results suggest that these ultisols are less stable than the midwestern alfisols and mollisols, but generally form more permeable seals, perhaps due to the higher sand content
