The UN's efforts to cope with both forced and voluntary migration at the intranational and international levels are discussed. It is very difficult to build institutions that tackle migrant-generating problems. The UN role in environmental protection, a relatively new activity, is considered. The development of new rules for the non-navigational uses of international waterways is examined. There is a detailed analysis of the process of defining and delimitating maritime boundaries. The UN plays a very great role in the avoidance and resolution of geographic or political conflicts
