Abstract

This paper studies coastal evolution in the Gulf of Valencia in historical times through the analysis of archeological, documental, cartographic and photographic data. Two sectors with a different evolution tendency have been identified: between the Ebro Delta and the City of Valencia with a recessive tendency, and between the City of Valencia and the Cape of San Antoni with a progradating tendency. The causes of this evolution are very complex but two major factors are outlined: the orientation of the coastline and the sediment supply. Moreover, human action is a third element
