Abstract

The A. argues that geographers must redirect their efforts towards new and overlooked areas of homelessness research. An overview is provided of the past decade's research on the characterizations of homeless persons and the search for causes of homelessness. Public responses to homelessness are discussed, in particular the community and municipal rejection of homeless persons and human service facilities. The representation of homelessness is discussed using a continuum of stigma based on the public's perception of the productivity, dangerousness and personal culpability of homeless persons
