Abstract

Field investigation through oral interviews and empirical measurements reveal that scarification is currently one of the most harmful anthropogenic impact on the physical environment of Kaduna city. The landsurface is scarred due to soil mining, foot traffic, road construction and excavation of gutters and refuse dumping pits. Eroded soil, and solid waste cause the narrow gutters to clog, consequently, flooding and sedimentation take place during storms. Results of the study show that ecological instability typical of most urban environments has already set in within Kaduna city
