Abstract

After the U.S. South lost the cataclysmic civiL war< rom 2000 to 4000 confederate people immigrated to the State of Sao Paulo between 1865 and 1875 where they could continue to own slaves. Eleven essay on these migrants include the historical geography of their departure, journey and arrival; contributions to settlement, agriculture, and religion in Brazil; and language (they still speak a quaint form of English). - (DWG)
