Abstract

This paper uses policy documents and debates to examine key elements of the post-1979 Conservative Governments' law and order policy programme. This program, which draws inspiration from the New Right doctrine, has important implications for the meaning of citizenship in Britain (by enhancing a sense of individual responsability for the welfare of community). Particular pieces of recent legislation are outlined
