Abstract

Since the 1950's the silification of plants, known as opal phytoliths, has been applied successfully for paleoecological research. The methodology is to compare with the palynology in Quaternary studies. In soil samples from Zaire fossil phytoliths could be found. Therefore it is to be expected that the phytoliths contribute to the progress in paleoecological research in Africa. This paper is a first report about the progress of this work
