Abstract

Archaeological investigations were undertaken in 1985 prior to the construction of a hydroelectric development scheme, 50 km upstream of Lyon. Several sites, dating from Neolithic to Roman times were found, excavated and studied by an interdisciplinary research team. Description of the stratigraphy of the fine sediments above the lower gravels and testing the CM diagram method as a tool for 1) the discrimination of sedimentary layers, 2) for the determination of the processes of sediment deposition and 3) for the definition of palaeolandform units. The results provide new information on fluvial dynamics in the Rhône v!lleydusing the Holocene
