Abstract

A simple conceptual model of the genesis of the large sedimentary manganese orebodies of the orthoquartzite-glauconite-clay association is presented. This model considers the formation of these deposits at unconformities (palaeoshorelines) to result from microbiological manganese precipitation during the acme of marine transgressions of oxygen-stratified seas, the latter being the result of cyclicity operating on the crustal-hydrosphere-atmosphere system
