Abstract

The AA. review existing theory and evidence on the globalization of Japanese automobile production. Attention is paid to the reproduction of Japanese-style spatial agglomerations of this production in the US and Europe. Although there are similarities in locational strategies at the level of the assemblers, distinct differences are emerging in terms of the location of Japanese component firms. European assemblers are to some extent following similar peripheral location strategies to those adopted by Japanese transplants
