Abstract

The rivers in Japan and Taiwan lying in a warm-humid climatic region and on island arcs with violent crustal movement have markedly large erosion rates and are today not at grade. Nevertheless most of the longitudinal profiles of the rivers are described by either exponential or power functions, both of which have been proposed for graded rivers. Using the coefficients of the functions best fitting to the longitudinal profiles, the stages in morphological development of the profiles are discussed in this paper
