Abstract

This study reports on field runon experiments on 30 m plots at Baringo, Kenya and laboratory simulated rainfall experiments on a 25 m flume, designed to provide information on characteristic hydraulic conditions, the processes involved in microstep formation, and the relationship of microsteps to rill and gully development. Experimental results lead to proposal of an evolutionary sequence from initial scour to eventual proto-gullies, linked to slope angle and the progressive impact of scour features on unit discharge
