Document title

Hydrochemical analysis of spatial and temporal variations of solute composition in surface and subsurface waters of a high arctic catchment

Authors(s) and Affiliation(s)

Spatial and seasonal variations of solute composition were studied in different compartments of a partly glaciated arctic catchment at Liefdefjorden, NW-Spitsbergen. Main emphasis was put on the snowmelt period from June till end of July. The A. attached special importance to the chemistry of different Al-species and dissolved carbonate equilibria. Distribution of Al-species, especially the occurence of toxic inorganic forms can be used to detect areas in which geochemical buffer capacity is exhausted due to excessive input of man made acid precipitation
