Abstract

Studies of alluvial placer deposits from tropical cratons in West Africa, New Australia and Indonesia, indicated common features important to exploration strategy and to geomorphic theory. A synchronous response of river systems to episodes of climatic warming and rainfall increase has led to major pulses of energy and sediment fluxes into receiving areas, and also reworked coarse channel gravels that act as traps for placer mineral grains
