Abstract

Glacial history of highland Peru and Bolivia is used to reconstruct climatic changes during the last 20 000 years. Late Pleistocene glaciation occurred between 14 000-12 000 yr. B.P. Between 12 000-10 000 yr. B.P. deglaciation proceeded rapidly and by 10 000-8 000 yr. B.P. glaciers in most valleys were near their modern extents. In the late Holocene (1 300-600 yr. B.P.) the glaciers advanced again causing climatic cooling and possible agricultural deterioration.―(DWG)
