Abstract

As exemplified by the Callawaya people of Bolivia, traditional Andean agriculture arranged in a zonation of vertical belts was adapted to the climate. External social and technological changes have upset the equilibrium resulting in environmental degradation and population pressure. The A. poses dilemmas of cultural survival, environmental sustainability and desire of Andean people for a better life.―(DWG)
