Abstract

Studies of recent dustfall in the Western and Eastern Mediterranean islands and mainlands give support to the hypothesis of eolian dust deposition from Africa. It is probably an important contribution to soil formation, slope wash and stream sediments in the Mediterranean area. The quantitative role of African dust input, its history and distribution in time and space ought to be the subject of continued research
