Abstract

More than 240 wild areas that total more than 70 000 km[2] now receive protection in Central America. Most of these are tropical rain forest and incorporate indigenous populations. This article inventories protected areas for each country and offers research priorities that will ensure preservation of their natural and cultural diversity.―(DWG)
