Abstract

« Ethnopedology », i.e. the folk perception and use of soil, is discussed here for Mayan and Spanish-speaking peasants in tropical lowland Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. Their folk soil taxonomies are interpreted as indicators of successful adaptation of farming systems.―(DWG)
