Abstract

The idea of an overland railway from the conterminous USA to Alaska through the Canadian Yukon goes back to the late nineteenth century. Obstacles to this connection have not ended the perennial discussion to close the international rail gap : the dream of fulfilling a geographic destiny sometimes surpasses economic reality. - (DWG)
