Abstract

Until the mid-twentieth century, Chico, California was a farm supply town based on fruits, nut and grain production. Now Chico has emerged as the organizing mode for the Sacramento Valley, thanks to the expansion of its regional state university and retail commerce, as well as an influx of retirees. - (DWG)
