Abstract

School children (age between 6 and 16 years) participated in an air pollution survey in the Brussels region. The lichenometric method used shows that air pollution, especially SO[2] pollution, influences lichen growth and development. A map of the growth rate of the epilithic species Lecanora muralis was drawn for the greater Brussels area and compared with SO[2] pollution in this area. The lichenometric method contributes to the general development and education of children. - (Les AA.)
