Abstract

Relatively little attention has been paid to the Holocene evolution of the rivers since the end of the last glaciation, although the main trends were thought to be understood. Nevertheless, a considerable number of studies have been carried out, but mostly they have remained limited in scope. This chapter attempts to synthesize the results of those studies, many of which are unpublished, and to combine them with newly collected data into an overall view of the evolution of the River Scheldt during the last 15.000 years. - (L'A.)
